Junior A Football 2023

Id go with your selections aswell, Havens 2nd string wont be easily beaten while Barryroe might have one eye on the hurling next weekend but should edge past Haven.

Caheragh should have too much for a youthful Colums outfit, The O Driscolls will be the difference here again.

Bal v Timoleague is the tightest game to call here. Bal didnt play that well to get out of the group and might have one eye on the hurling next weekend. Timoleague can throw their full attention to football now and Sunday might be there day but this game could go either way.

Kilmac should get over Ross's 2nd string will little fuss. The word going around is Gore will be fit and his inclusion will only benefit the Leap/Glandore outfits chances. They went kind of under their radar during the group stage but have the experience and some nice young talent to get over Ross, who are depending on some old stagers and young guns.

The semi final draw is:

Barryroe/Castlehaven v Kilmacabea/Carbery Rangers

Tadgh Mac/Colums v Bal/Timoleague
Might have an Ibane Gaels final!

Avondhu Predictions;

LC Gaels v Mallow. Interesting fixture. Gaels have had hard groups in previous years and seem to be heading in the right direction. I heard they played Ballymartle in a hurling challenge the weekend gone, so that seems to be their priority. Mallow were well beaten by a strong Clyda side on opening weekend, but seem to have turned their season around. I would have thought Kilshannig would progress before them, but Mallow pulled it out of the bag. Kevin Taylor (ex soccer player) has done well for them. I think Gaels will have too much tho. Neither of these two sides will be contenders for the title.

Charleville v Clyda Rovers. Charleville will be down after the hurling weekend. Impossible to know who will make themselves available for them. Daniel O Flynn, one of their go to guys went off injured in the hurling. Charleville lost to Killavullen in the round robin, in their only hard game as they were always going to beat Ballyclough. I do not think Clyda will fear them. Clyda only used 20 players in a shocking Senior A campaign, having gone straight to the semi final last year with the same crop of players. I count six players on their junior squad who have started senior football over the last three years. They also have three very strong minors, that is nine high quality players for this grade at a minimum. They impressed in all three round robin games winning all, and scoring well, fitness will not be an issue for them. I am going to give them my vote in confidence. Either way, whoever wins this affair will have a say in the championship.

Who is Favorite to win Avondhu Championship?
I don't think any second team if they got to county stages could compete with Carbery/Muskerry winners

More super analysis by North Cork.
I’m going LC & Clyda. But no surprise at all if Mallow & Charleville come through the weekend.
Both close calls.
A lot of super contests at Junior A level across the county this weekend in my opinion.

Charleville “the bookies favourites”.. as North Cork said it be depend on how they respond to being knocked out of the hurling and how fit Flynn is.
But all teams left will have a realistic aim to win it..
As a Muskerry or Carbery man you would not to meet in county final anyone from Clyda or Charleville. As senior clubs they would be very tough prospect by the time they’d get to a county junior final..If they got a head of steam I’d consider them unbeatable by county final time. Also in Avondhu, Killavullen are supposed to be coming of age and were tipped by some on the qt and on here but I’d imagine that tip would be revised now after their capitulation in the hurling.

Tadgh Mac/Colums v Bal/Timoleague
I wouldn't write Carbery Rangers off. They played the Tadgh Mcc men in a challenge game before they played Newcestown and beat them by 2 points.
Carbery Rangers haven't lost anyone that played in that challenge game to their Senior. Tadgh mc had everyone.
Gore is supposedly back but no one knows what kind of form he's in.
Ian Jennings is carrying an injury also

Interesting to see divisions now coming into knock out stages. Can we have predictions for the county stages.

1. Imokilly V Muskerry
2. Carbery V Duhallow
3. Avondhu V Carrigdhoun
4. Sendun Bye

Semi Finals:
1 v 2
3 v 4
