Joining a gym

I've got to the stage where I'm sick of the beer belly and having to squeeze in to some of my favorite tshirts and jersey. I've never been to a gym and I find them very intimidating, but this place up in Frankfield has been constantly appearing on my social media and it seems very relaxed, and aimed at beginners in small groups of less than 6.

I sent an email to them and they called me, and spent around 20 minutes talking about me, my goals, my diet etc. I'm going up on Wednesday next for a consultation and some basic movement to see how my body is. It's all very intimidating.

It's three nights a week for 6 weeks initially, €395. Fitness training and diet plans. Is that good value?

Has anyone else been in this position? Going into a gym in a fairly embarassing state of health? Does it get easier after a few weeks?

It's a start and that's all that matters.

Forget about your condition now. No need to be embarrassed .Concentrate on where you want to be.

Make it a habit.

I can't stress this heavily enough: Alcohol forms no part of a fitness regime. It is an inhibitor to fitness, mental well being and life in general.

Well done on taking the first step! You'll be glad you did.

Yeah, you'll never drop weight on the gargle.

Your system is too busy processing alcohol.

Just ordered a pair of Munster tracksuit pants on Lifestyle, sale price.

I'm nervous but I'm actually looking forward to it. I want to lose some weight and be fit enough to run and play a bit of sport. It'll be good to get the diet sorted out too, there'd be days when I don't eat more than a banana or a few slices or smoked salmon
