Agreed, what's need is plenty of gumptionI'd settle for no more toothless attacking play

How about stretching that time span out to 40 years? Maybe Brady the last truly skillful player we've produced.Irish players aren't really that skilled (relatively speaking). If you've ever watched an Irish player try to control a flighted pass, it can be painful to watch. They're all knees and elbows , and take about three touches to get it down, by which time an opposition defender has already closed them down, or they accidentally knock it into touch. They lack that smooth touch that even middle ranked teams from the continent have. In short, I've not seen many Irish players in the last 20 years look truly comfortable on the ball during matches against good opposition.
If Stephen Kenny did nothing else, he showed how easily the team gets caught out when they try to play expansive attacking football. The players cannot pass the ball on the deck in a way that is consistently accurate.

To be fair, if you told me Ireland had appointed a coach who was referred to as "The Dentist" I'd have said that sounds exactly what we needed ?Not to put a tooth in it but i think that its a poor appointment.
