Duffy became more annoying argumentative and opinionated in latter years and that really wasn't his function.
Liveline as a concept was great in early days and there's no doubt that many voices that would have gone unheard on serious topics got airtime and national attention.
He may have listeners that will miss him I'm sure but a new voice and presenter might give the show a new impetus.

My brother and my sil met him at Electric Picnic a number of years ago and spent a few of hours drinking with him. They said he was sound out and very good company.
