Joe Bonamassa

"It's a real, real honour for the family to have this happen, and in particular, in Cork," said Donal Gallagher. "I can't think of a better 30th anniversary remembrance for Rory, a celebration of his work, and no better man than Joe to play that."

Say Donal, Maybe a better 30th anniversary would be to not flog the guitar to some rich prick, just a suggestion like
To be fair, I guess the family need the money.

Interesting. I'm a bit of a guitar nerd myself so I've watched a few videos on Bonamassa's collection which is huge and reaches all the way back to the 1800s. It's admirable that he takes such care of musical history but, as Marc Maron put it on his podcast recently - "They go into a vault. Not many folks get to see those guitars ever again. Unless you hang out with Joe".

It would be fairly odd for him to go and buy the Stratocaster after this - unless he intends to leave it behind him after playing down the Marquee.
Now that would be some way to end a gig wouldn't it!

Bring Sheena Crowley on stage and hand it to her.

The issue with keeping it in Cork/Ireland is that you couldn't just have the '61 Strat and open a museum/shrine to it.

You'd have to buy a lash of Rory's guitars, amps, jeans, jocks etc. to display alongside it - like the "David Bowie Is..." exhibition.

I am assuming here but... I would think that Donal Gallagher has probably sold off the lesser items piecemeal over the years.

Regardless - the Stratocaster will rarely be played in public that much and will never have anyone wring the sound out of it that its master could.

Think outside the box Crispy,

They can always stick it in a glass case in Paul Street shopping centre next to Yuri Sedykh's world record breaking hammer from the 84 City Sports

And get Brush Sheils down to cut the ribbon?
Brush will have to wait till he breaks the 100m over 75s double hip replacement with a fitted defibrillator world record before he gets that honour
