Jimi Hendrix Discuss

Are you saying Clapton isn't considered one of the great guitarists?

I wouldn't be his biggest fan but it's generally accepted that he was pretty handy tbf.

Clapton deserves to be regarded as one of the "Great guitarists" imo, his recorded output is patchy though and I don't think that he could be rated as a great song writer, his technique is second to none in his chosen field and to be fair to him he has never been slow to credit those blues players who have influenced him.

I don't see the point in comparing Hendrix to someone like Chet Atkins btw, two totally different styles of music. I tried to get into Atkins but I found what I saw on youtube of him was very cheesy so I really wouldn't know where to start to try and gain an appreciation for his music. Of course Atkins is technically better though but then again so are many lesser known guitarists who weren't flash like Hendrix was and who would be completely unknown to the casual music fan.

Those who like to dismiss Hendrix should take a look at the youtube video lessons of a song like Little Wing or better still just listen to it, there is so much going on in that song alone to illustrate just how good Hendrix was for those prepared to ignore the hype and actually listen to the music.

I don't understand how anyone who knows anything about music can dismiss Hendrix tbhphwy.

He was not only an incredible guitarist, he wrote great songs and was a genius in the studio as well.

The complete musician IMO

You clearly have not been within ten feet of a guitar.

To hold Claptons technique as second to known and in the next sentence dismiss Atkins output as cheesy is absolutely ridiculous.

Atkins is truly the king in terms of technique, it's absolutely flawless in comparison to most popular guitarists over the last century.

That doesn't mean I'd sit home on a Saturday night and listen to theme tune to Benny Hill or that he's the best guitarist that ever lived. Given the options I'd rather listen to Hendrix but in purely technical terms Atkins is king in comparison.

Unplug Hendricks and he's not up to much.

Well if you wanted to have a genuine conversation on here about music I would have been up for that but since you are clearly only interested in throwing insults around you can get lost.

I can't listen to that without thinking of people chasing Benny Hill around the place at high speed but the technical genius on display there can't be denied.

This guy might also interest you btw.

A trad musician friend introduced his music to me.
