An incoming Labour Govt. will be left with a financial sh*tshow to deal with.
They're actively making plans to fuck things up for Labour.
As an example, the "fiscal headroom" Hunt apparently used in the autumn statement as justification for cutting NI is predicated in real terms £20bn cuts to public service spending.
The full inbound EU border controls have been delayed five times now, due to come into effect in Jan.
I fully expect they'll be shifted once more to immediately after the election.
Those full border controls are going to end in food shortages if they ever come in. They'll also result in a lot of small, specialist businesses going bust.
Right now, if you want to buy something from the EU, meh, it's grand, Paperwork n stuff, but it doesn't tend to get too badly delayed at ports.
With full customs checks, you'll end up with exactly the same situation British suppliers have been suffering with but in reverse. British suppliers are getting stuff caught up in customs, massive delays, etc... That's because the EU is conducting rigorous checks, as per agreement.
The reverse is not true. But once EU suppliers can't get their stuff across the border without health certs, all the paperwork in place, and random bits in a consignment getting the whole thing rejected, they will not do what the Brits have had to do, i.e. set up distribution centres in EU and bulk export. Smaller EU suppliers will just say "fuck that, Brexit island is too much hassle" and simply refuse to sell the stuff to Britain.
The UK imports just under half the food it consumes, a little under half of which come from just the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany and France.
Fresh fish will be the worst hit as Britain barely catches any of what it consumes. Fresh fruit is the other biggest impacted, as it produces about a sixth of what it consumes.
So starting a Labour government off with that hand grenade seems like a good idea to me if I'm a prick of a tory strategist.
