I've advised my children not to reproduce...

Vs when our parents were young?

That would have read - lack of access to education, catholic church stranglehold, no
contraception, recession, FF cronyism, Cold War etc

Things are significantly better now, albeit serious issues still existing. To be honest I’d have lack of affordability and housing as the no. 1 and 2 for kids now. Climate change will also have a massive bearing on their lives
Id have it the other way around to be honest. They won't be getting any leg up on the housing ladder from me Im afraid.
Ive their education needs, present and I hope future looked after at the cost of a pension and they have a bedroom each.
That's the sum total of what I can offer them.

Can't see how they'll afford housing in the future and with the way the world is changing I dont see the emigration solutions of the past(of the USA, then Australia) open to them in the future.

Population decline is exponential. One child families would see population of the world reduced to a quarter in two generations for instance if my primary school maths is correct. Evolution is a bitch, if you don't reproduce your species dies out

Nearly 1.5 billion people in Africa and expected to hit 2.5 by 2050. 1.5 billion in India and rising. The population is rising, just not in the west.

My concern would be bringing kids into whatever sort of world they're going to face in 30 years.

With climate disaster, famine, nuclear war, a Sinn Fein government all genuinely on the bingo card, is it fair to bring anyone into that world and leave them to fend for themselves?
All those things have been on the cards for awhile now.

If you can't stop obsessing about a Sinn Fein government in every comment, then you're probably not suited for parenthood.

I'm sure it'll all be her decision anyway. :P
