I've advised my children not to reproduce...

It was a hard chat, but an easy one nonetheless; I've just advised my three teenage children to 'look after themselves' and not have offspring.

What with the truffle economy, house price(s), hyper-inflation and other mind-manacling matters, I've told them to not be foolish in having children (in today's world) and to 'look after themselves'.

A world of easiness, travel, spare cash, general non-neediness and the avoidance of 'school gate Mammy and Daddy politics' awaits them.

The family name ends here.

Nah, I told mine the opposite yesterday.
I want him to have a mini version of himself so I can stand there chuckling away to myself at him having to deal with it the same way my father does now. 😄

Isn't it their call, not yours? I have 4 children, 3 grown up daughters in their 20s. If they want to have kids, that's their business. Same for the young lad, though he is a bit young yet.

Definitely their choice, but my advice is unchanged.

All well and good until they hit the vicissitudes of old age and they have noone to help them through their lonely twilight years.

Fine for you Beaty Boy - three doting offspring with no other commitments mopping your brow and changing your nappy as you drift into the other world.
I'm alright Jack - pull up the ladder now!!

If true, that's sad. People have completely lost perspective.

Ireland has never been a better place to live. Lots of issues but they currently don't include: The Great Famine, occupation by a foreign government, the black death (killed 1/3 of Europeans), polio, tribal warfare, summary executions, 50/50 chance of making it to your second birthday, tenement squalor, living ten-to-a-room, outdoor toilets, civil war, total dependency on agriculture and the whims of nature/weather, systemic unemployment, workhouses, mother and baby "homes", Dublin winning the AI hurling.
