Providing food is a service.

Its mad that theres been no dining facility on the Cork Dublin route in years.

It is. But optional. Times change, I remember when all this was fields etc.

Lots of regional trains in Europe have fuck all catering. Buy your stuff in the station, it's not that hard.

Journeys are short here, you're not changing your watch with the time zones.

The problem is the fares would need to go up to bring back the catering services and that’s not a great approach when we are trying to get people out of cars and not public transport.

There's a limited pot of funding so somethings got to give. You want a 3 or 4 course meal, book a luxury train for a few 100 or a grand.

I wish people would learn how to public transport. Just got on the train to go back to my car after another hard day in the office arguing on PROC and the woman ahead of me boarded the train and then stood at the door thereby blocking others from getting on.

She did the same yesterday.

This is typical main character syndrome seen everywhere now, not just on public transport.

Its the main route between the countries 2 main cities and depending on delays it can take upto 2.5 to 3 hours

Theres dining carriages on the trains servicing it. Irish rail just cant be bothered to provide or contract out the service.

Not being able to get hot food on the country's main service in 2026 is pathetic.

For anyone living in East Cork or using Cobh commuter services regularly this summer is going to be a nightmare on the trains.
