100%. I used the train to travel around Germany last summer and it’s incredible how far behind we’ve fallen.

And yet, hot food is available on the Enterprise service between Connolly and Belfast

They don't eat well in Belfast I presume!

Train timeliness has improved. Citygold is just a free hot drink, comfier chair and sometimes WiFi charging built into the desk. God be with the days you could get a fry.

The seats in city gold are absolutely filthy. Supposedly cream/white, but in reality black with dirt.

They've upgraded them recently. Not sure if the new First class carriages are on every train but they are certainly on a few, and it's a massive improvement

I was on one last week and it was only when I stood up that I noticed how dirty the seats were

That must have been one of the old ones. The new ones are pristine.

They only replaced first class though, standard class have been left as they were, and a lot of those seats are absolutely mank.

Booked a ticket on the Dublin to Cork train for a Sunday coming up. Rarely get the train any longer.

Noticed that there's a quiet carriage option so I picked a seat there.

Is that rule actually observed or will I be treated to Charlene MCMVLXX or Duo Lippy at 17 tinny decibels?

It's generally observed and enforced unless you get members of a certain group on, they tend to not they the rules
