Ireland’s National Infrastructure

Would you support increased powers for the Government to push through key infrastructure projects?

That’s why people should be given plenty of notice. There should be notification now that by 2045 there’ll be 70% of the people entering the Civil Service in this country will be working outside of Dublin. Let them prepare for it.
Let them prepare for it? How? Buy a house in Ballyshannon and go sit in it for 30 years until the job arrives?

I suppose the Bertie years were the Apogee of Clientelism.

It was easier to give every backbencher the promise of a dencralised office in his sithole county town.

Your point about commuting for the promotion and a 2 year hardship is valid But that's becuae they had assed it. You have to burn the boats. It's all the senior positions that should have been moved so they would drag the juniors with them. Not have it so that it's a light house to return to.

Centralisation of Government, legislature, Judiciary, Economic and Regulatory centres to Dublin is bad for the whole country including Dublin.

I agree with this 100%, and would support a well considered approach to it as moving faculties out of Dublin would be positive for everybody, including those who live/want to live in Dublin.

Strangely enough, i dont hear a lot about it from politicians/groups etc

Nope - those currently in the Civil Service can retire off, many of them would be of an age to anyway, if they can’t find any department within the Civil Service moving “down the country” to where most of the Civil Service originate in the first place. There’d still be 30odd percent in Dublin.
Much of the skills within the Civil Service, particularly at the less Senior Grades, are transferable.
It’s what was done when McCreavy (I think it was him) instituted the previous decentralisation drive. People swapped depts to transfer to a place they preferred.

Many of those currently working in some Dept in Dublin wouldn’t mind returning to their home county, or at least much nearer to their family of origin, sell up their two-up-two-down in Stoneybatter and buy a relative mansion near mammy where childminding costs would be much less of an issue and the quality of life so much better

The Metro is facing a Judicial Review.

This country is going nowhere as long as NIMBYs block critical infrastructure.

Assholes.
It's fucking UNDERGROUND, what fucking harm will it do to anyone.

this is outrageous, anyone negatively affected by this thing is about to make a fortune when their property prices go bananas.
