Independent Ireland

"What do you think about my manifesto?"
"I like your manifesto, put it to the test-o."

This was their manifesto for the last election so rip it apart or smoother it in cream and play with yourself or you could just see what you do and don't like about it!

Boppy, presumably you've nothing against more housing, and aren't vehemently pro or con mercusor which leaves their Cost of Living and Efficiency neither of which I suspect (open to correction) has you vehemently against their proposals either.

So that just leaves the below. Care to tell us what parts you are so utterly and vehemently against in these policies? I think the only controversial one is the history and culture exam but I can see some reasons why they could be a good idea.

3. Immigration

Obligate IPAS centres to follow the same planning regulations as every other entity.

Impose VAT to the contracts of hotels accommodating IPAS applicants.

Allow the revocation of naturalised citizenship in cases where such a person is convicted to serious violent or sexual crimes.

Ensure people seeking permanent residence permits must take a six-month course on Irish history and culture and pass an exam provided in English and Irish only.

Require airlines to provide scans of passports presented pre-flight to identify people who destroy or lose their identity documents.

Impose strict background checks on all visa applicants.

you talkin' to me or Boppy???

I wasn’t born yesterday. The minute I name someone as a racist I’ll find myself with a solicitors letter.

But what I will say is Indignant Ireland as a party and some politicians individually have an appalling record on race relations and anti traveller sentiment.
There's a good reason for that pal.

'Relations' 'Sentiment'
Give us a break ffs.

Boppy - I don't think you've an irrational dislike for all things II leesider. But feel free to chime in if there's anything you've real issues with in their manifesto.
On housing I don't see anything of substance that would help relieve the situation, it looks more like they had to have a few ideas on it as it is a massive issue.

Agriculture and fisheries I would be against the top 2. Mercosur is in Ireland's economic interests and really the only ones that are up in arms are beef farmers but somehow they seemed to control the narrative on it when it was being discussed.

Immigration, don't see what the first is going to really do except make conditions better for refugees but I think the aim is more to stop IPAS centres. So then if there is an influx of refugees for whatever reason we are back to square one, looking for accommodation here, there and everywhere. Not sure I agree with the revocation of citizenship, and definitely don't agree with the permanent residency course requirement, something like that should be for citizenship alright. Not sure how you actually impose strict background checks on refugees, lovely to say it but not sure how it can be done in practice.

Cost of living, I would be against the freezing of green taxes, and not sure how the tax relief for people returning from abroad would actually work.........I might go abroad again myself!

Efficiency and reform, in principle agree with a lot of that but wouldn't trust them to be able to enact something like that without it going all Musk like.

Just to add I have never had much gra for FF so I wouldn't trust this bunch as far as I'd throw them!!

I completely agree with this.

Additionally, in my opinion Indignant Ireland has only one real priority regarding housing. Allowing rural people and farmers to be able to build houses where they’d like. And I’m completely opposed to that.

Mercosur is in all of our interests and the nitrates directive should no longer have a derogation.
