I think an intelligent person would understand that it's human nature to have told some lies in the course of one's life, but it's the size and impact and repeating of the lies that would set one out from the herd.

For instance, I'd generally believe what Small Mickey (oops, there I go again ) would say on a topic even though I've zero doubt he'd have lied at some stage of his life - certainly think he'd be entitled to the benefit of the doubt.

However, I think Gerry Adams lied repeatedly about whether or not he was a member of the IRA. Would I trust him on most things - well let's just say I'd have a healthy scepticism given his track record, and I'd have a similar healthy scepticism about what Helen Ogbu has to say given her repeated lies and the seriousness of the claim.

From the evidence I remain convinced that much of the political attacks on II from others claiming racism only do it as it suited II's critics to attack them and paint them as racists. And racism accusations are very difficult to refute in such circumstances.
