Taoiseach Micheál Martin has described the comments by Israel's defence minister, that countries like "Spain, Ireland, Norway and others" are "legally obligated" to take in Palestinians, as provocative.

What's lost in the 'evil Israel' circlejerk is that the Egyptians kept the crossing at Rafah firmly shut throughout the Israeli military campaign.

The Saudis/Jordan/Egypt don't want to the Gazan mob inside their borders destabilising the country.

Correct. Let the American and Germans take them in. The Germans did more to hamper Jews than any state so they should now be held responsible for resettling them. Let the Palestinians live in their rightful place.

I agree the numbers entering the country are a problem however the last census was the first of recent times where natural population growth was exceeded by net inward migration. The irony is a lot of the infrastructure improvements needed require immigrants coming in to fill skills gaps that exist.

I agree the numbers entering the country are a problem however the last census was the first of recent times where natural population growth was exceeded by net inward migration. The irony is a lot of the infrastructure improvements needed require immigrants coming in to fill skills gaps that exist.

In my 25 years+ going to building sites I've never met a Syrian/Afghan brick layer.

The skill gaps we have won't be filled by the migrants we are getting unfortunately.

We do too but as I’ve pointed out here before and I’m blue in the face from saying it, the refugee crisis is separate to immigration. We have critical skills visas.

The skill gaps we have won't be filled by the migrants we are getting unfortunately.

I think the above comment addresses this point too. We need to separate refugees from immigrants who come here to work. Separate issues.
