Immigration Thread

You'd wonder would some of these IPAS centres pass an inspection from the fire officer etc.

They seem to pop up in all sorts of buildings, and very quickly where as every other new build or conversion is subject to countless red tape and inspection.

Its a big changing point in what has been going on - to date empty buildings identified as IPAS centres have been set on fire, this is the first building I can think of which was occupied at the time so its a big escalation

These guys will need to be made an example of - strong message required
It's only a matter of time before a politician is physically attacked.

I remember a few years ago passing Leinster House and saying how cool it was that our high profile politicians can walk in and out without any hassle. Now, they'd get dogs abuse if they just walked out to get a coffee across the road.

There is just so much wrong in this country. It feels like we are in the eye of a storm

I presume every building used as an IPAS centre has a fire safety cert for the number of units in it, they'd have to for any amount of reasons.

Agree completely - I often make the same comment re Leinster House. The reality is that most days the politicians do wander in and out freely which I always think is a great thing to have, but you are right, we are getting dangerously close now unfortunately. The mindset of a fella lighting a building with 5 families in it on fire would have attacked SH or MM no problem

Given the latest change in rhetoric from the government in relation to asylum seekers and off the back of that young girl being sexual assaulted by a man who shouldn't be in the country you'd wonder if the below deportations were hastened to show they are doing something.

They seem to be very quick to send people back to Georgia for some reason, Afghanistan, Syria, Africa etc not so much it would appear.

24 people were deported to Pakistan in September. There was also a deportation flight with 35 people on board to Nigeria earlier this year.

Tbf, Afghanistan and Syria are not safe countries.

Why in the name of God criminals like this aren't brought to the plane after sentencing is beyond me our light touch approach just let to this joker ripping off loads of other people and was illegal in the state
how much more of this is going on!

Good article explaining some of the numbers involved in people immigration and seeking asylum in Ireland.
F o'Toole challenges the Tainaiste and asserts he is spreading disinformation.

My own thoughts on reading it is that Simon Harris/gov needs to lessen the rhetoric and do more on fixing the obvious inertia in the process regarding asylum seekers and the way their applications are handled .
