I’ve no idea about that but all I think of anytime this case is mentioned is what 2 work collegues from schull who knew all parties involved told me. It wasn’t Bailey. He just adored the attention and played up to it for years. Apparently all the locals know well. The explanation surrounding that witness who ultimately withdrew her false statement about Bailey is very credible too etc etc
Only last month I was at a function and at our table was a couple from Bantry. Somehow Sophie came up and they blurted out the same killers name and exact same story that I was told 25 years ago!
I don’t know if any of it is true, so I won’t repeat it, but a few years ago I did a bit of digging online and that story is there in print on other sites and forums.

Do you not think if some story the locals of west cork know well that the cops wouldn’t have followed up this lead and either gone after it to charge someone or discredited it?

My family are from that area and I’ve heard 20 different versions of the story from various locals down through the years.
