You should get spybot and zonealarm and most importantly a virus scanner, chances are your machine is infested and is acting as a mail relay and hence hogging your bandwith.

Also uniinstall any programs that you never use, there's probably a load of crap which starts on boot which you really don't need. If there's programs you need but don't need on startup then configure them not to run in the background. Also defragment your hard drive, and make sure you've at least the same amount of virtual memory allocated as available RAM. Do all of these and your machine will purr like a kitten. its probably a C bloackage, what you should do is open windows explorer right click on the C blockage (usually can be shown as C and drag this blockage into the recycle bin, then quickly empty the recycle bin, that should sort your problems

if you have any peer to peer software make sure that they have not used your computer to place huge folder in your programme file directory.
happened on the PC in the parents house when the sister downloaded kaza lite.

and the bastard thing had a back up folder so you had to go find that too, otherwise it would just re-download the folder
