It's a dark day when explicit sexual material is being pushed on to 12 year old children, in who's name is it being done?

If any parent wants to give that book to their 12 year old they are free to buy it and let the child read it in the family home, but to suggest that it should be in the children's section of a public library is bonkers, the nutjobs who thought this was a good idea want to put the responsibility of keeping the book, which from away from their children in public libraries onto parents, who by doing so will have the accusation that they are prudes, or homophobes thrown at them.

Parents of 12 year olds should be able to go to the children's sections of public libraries without being confronted by this kind of book.

The general discussion was about 12yo's, that has been constant throughout this debate, I threw out 14 on a whim as a matter of making a point. If you want to have a serious discussion don't resort to sly undermining techniques.

Surely the question should be why do you think they should be taught that stuff?
It is not vital information in relation to reproduction, sexuality, consent or anything that could be considered necessary and/or appropriate information for a 12yo to be taught.

I think the notion that sex education should be limited to reproduction only is farcical and teaching teens about consent without bring able to talk about the variety of things they might consent to is nonsensical.

It's classification varies from one to another.



some libraries in Cork have it in the adult collection whilst others have it classified in the young adult section (12-14 yrs old).

No one here at any point suggested this book be banned or removed simply that it be put in a category where it is not available to 12 year old children owing to its sexually graphic content.

You'd want rocks in your head to think it's appropriate to have this available to children in our libraries.
