I was in the duty free in Frankfurt this morning and I had to find somewhere quiet because I’d burst into tears. It hit me that I had one less person to buy a present for and one less person to tell about the great holiday I had.

That’s one thing I’ve noticed about grief. You could be going about your day as normal, it hits you out of nowhere for a few minutes and then you continue on again.

On the way home from Heuston now and I can’t wait to see my son.

Back from 2 weeks in der Vaterland

5 days in Munich, 2 days legoland 7 days In the Schwarzwald.

Great holiday.

Munich is expensive, more laid back than I was expecting. great experience jumping into the Eisbach river in the englisher garten and floating away down stream. Lovely green spaces and eating picnics In beer gardens with the kids were flaking away in the playground. The Olympic pool was class too. 3m diving boards for a fiver are exceptional craic on a hot day. nice city

Legoland was class but kids U10 only. older than that and there wouldn't be enough for them. Breakfast in the on site accommodation was surprisingly good.

Schwarzwald is right out the sticks well connected by train. You get a pass with your tourist tax that covers all public transport for your stay. Loads of outdoor pools and well marked hikes. but you'd need a car really. we caught the train up to Karlsruhe and saw KSC vs Inter in a preseason friendly. Great experience 30k fans, excellent atmosphere. Andy Diouf scored for inter in the 92nd and 93rd minutes to win 2-1. Gutted

All the Gerries we met were sound. Accommodation was in short supply and expensive, otherwise prices similar to here.

yeah our 2nd time. we did a similar holiday pre kids and always said we'd go back. it's a lovely place
