heinze shocker...

Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze will miss "most of the season" with cruciate knee ligament damage.

The 27-year-old Argentine was hurt in a tackle with Jan Kromkamp during the first half of United's Champions League tie with Villarreal in midweek.

Heinze's injury is a blow for United, who are set to be without Roy Keane for two weeks with a hamstring strain.

United boss Ferguson has not ruled out Heinze from the campaign altogether, but it seems unlikely he will return.

He also faces a race against time to be fit for Argentina's World Cup campaign in Germany next year.

Gary Neville, Wes Brown, Louis Saha, Quinton Fortune and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are also sidelined for United.

Kieran Richardson looks set to fill Heinze's left-back position in the Premiership game against Liverpool on Sunday.

that's terrible and he's one player i don't think anyone would wish it on. I'm amazed at how weak the squad is looking in certain positions. People may have given out about the likes of Phil Neville but now we have no fit left back. Also in midfield we don't have a natural midfielder to put instead of Keane. What's the story with Liam Miller? Is he injured or what because i'd have thought now would be a time to use him.

Heinze's injury can mean only one good thing O'Shea may now get in plenty of games ahead of our two vital world cup games and the world cup itself in Germany, but nonetheless this is a massive blow for united, Heinze is a great player and United will miss him.

John O'Shea needs plenty of games to get him up to standard anyway - Does'nt seen very clever now selling Phil Neville ? He was always great cover as a utility player.
