Only thing I can think of is his solicitor declined bail so his client can get free mental care in jail (he'd be waiting a lot longer on the outside)

You said the only reason you could think of for his solicitor declining bail was so that his client could avail of free mental health care..
If you genuinely and honesty think that is the only reason for him not getting getting bail then it would indicate you are not very intelligent.

Seems to have been a mental breakdown or maybe on drugs?. Who knows. I don't know him. Asked a couple of people and they didn't know him either. He's from Kilworth and it was his fathers car. Can't offer any more info than the news articles I'm afraid.

At around 9pm, the driver of the van was spotted driving erratically on the N8 near Fermoy, heading towards Cork city.

Gardaí were alerted and intercepted the vehicle, which they found to contain the children.

A Garda spokesperson said: "At approximately 9.45pm, gardaí signalled for a van to stop in the Mahon area.

"The van failed to stop and proceeded to ram a Garda vehicle. A short time later, the van stopped but when Gardaí attempted to engage with the driver, the Garda vehicle was rammed again."

While two gardaí received treatment for non-life threatening injuries, none of the children, one of whom was an infant, were injured in the incident
