The first one was brilliant. So very bleak, though, that even though I have the second one, I'm still gearing myself up to reading it!

There were a rake of other lads around the same era as Kittser, Hansard, Casey, etc. who are now playing back rooms or mostly forgotten to the mists of time.

Every week there seemed to be some other fucker in baggy jeans with the hems all busted to shit because the denim went lower than their Converse All Stars and dragged on the pavement (tune).

Some barely brushed the guitar as they sang, others hammered it but all of them - ALL OF THEM - played a Takamine with a distressed look or hole carefully placed somewhere on it.

Fionn Regan, Iain Archer, Graham Hopkins (AKA Halite - used to be Therapy?/The Frames' drummer), Declan O'Rourke, Ollie Cole etc.

In Cork we had Ronan Leonard, David Nelligan, Andy Wilson and Dylan Fitzgerald.

Thinking on it - there were two or three that came out of that scene with excellent albums - really a cut above;

• Josh Ritter (honorary Irishman) - "Hello Starling"
• Joe Chester - "A Murder Of Crows"
• Ian Whitty (honorary Corkman) - "The Lucky Caller No. 9"

I used to like Nina Hynes' Album

Went to see her live with Bell X1 in the Boole Basement there was maybe 50 people there

this was maybe 6 months after Damien Rice left them when they were called Juniper

Carcash stuff, my street crowd took a Major hit that day from which I'm still trying to recover

He's gigging about a long time. Cant imagine hes making much of a living off of it . He'd be of a similar vintage to Hansard.

He does some electronic stuff under the guise 'New Jackson' that seems to be pretty popular, I haven't listened to any of it but I see the name popping up on festival line ups regularly
