Glasheen National School Traffic Chaos

I just drove past the School Avenue turn off to Glasheen NS and the parents dropping their kids off are causing a massive traffic backlog stretching all the way back to Maxol and the Wilton Roundabout. Rather than driving directly to a parking spot, the parents appear to be stopping outside the school entrance to let little Johnny out, blocking the cars behind them to get past. There's absolutely no need for the tailback all the way to the Wilton Roundabout, and they're the cause of it. Crazy stuff, and clearly Glasheen school management don't give a crap.

The school management are constantly trying to deal with it. They encourage walking, or the ' park and stride' campaign all the time. What else do you suggest they do?

It's mayhem there every day with the traffic.

I'd say it's the parents sense of entitlement to drive right up to the school gates that is the problem.

They could park further away and walk the last 100mtrs to the school but that's too inconvenient for them.

Why should there be parking spots next to the school?

It's a narrow hill and no cars should be allowed drive up from the Glasheen road side.

You have assholes parking on the left going up the hill too, on double yellow lines.

Rox makes a good point though. In our car centric culture we feel entitled to be able to drive to the door of wherever we are going.

I have an issue with motorists breaking the law certainly.

In fairness you're not going to send 4-7 year olds out walking in conditions like today. I'll take a bit of minor traffic inconvenience over children developing pneumonia.
