Germany votes in state elections.

The AfD certainly making ground much to the annoyance of Catherine Connoly and Michael Higgins.
It would be expected that the Left would do well in Berlin as the area is of the great unwashed hippie types and anti everything types.

The AfD are the most malicious, and dangerous, major political party in Western Europe. Unfortunately, the mainstream German parties have proved desperately poor over the past dozen years or so. Time to get their act together but the malaise seems entrenched and would take a few years to turn round.

It’s not surprising the far right parties have gained a lot of ground in Germany, this is a direct result of the migration policies of successive governments.

German people have had enough and opted for the head bangers which will no doubt in time bring plenty of different problems.

It seems to be at both the far-left and far-right ends of the spectrum. The hollowing out of the centre is becoming a feature of many European countries. Voters tired of economic stagnation, high immigration, wokeness, and Brussels to varying degrees.

Yep, politics seems to be getting more polarised across the whole western society and people seem to be going towards the radical extremes of both spectrums.

A lot to be said for sensible, steady centrist governments.

Merz was a big disappointment and a lot here had high hopes for him…He vehemently was against Merkels immigration policies and paid the price for going against Angela. He would have succeeded had he gone a bit right as he claimed he would on his manifesto but in the end he was a bit like a rabbit stuck in the headlights…German economy stagnant with no plan to reboot the manufacturing sector and he did squat diddly about the immigration crisis…The AFD couldn’t believe their luck when they realized Olaf was a lame duck…

The irony is the areas voting for the AfD have the lowest immigration levels in Germany.
