I’m up Galway direction at the moment and in fairness the hotel I’m in is decent so not a Sinn Feiner in sight!!

If I voted the way I said I would that would not keep SF out, it would actually support a coalition with SF. The problem is I don’t trust SF not to be divisive in relation to a united ireland and make that their main purpose. Also I don’t like how they are very quiet on Russia.

divisive in relation to a UI in what way? It’s easy to suggest “oh they’ll be this or that if they get in” but who exactly are they going to divide when that would undermine the very thing they’d be trying to achieve? In what way would it further the cause of a UI to divide people over it?

Even those historically that weren’t as in favour of a UI as others down here, FG, declared they’re in favour and it seemed ironically that FF under MM had completely cooled on the whole idea compared to how historically they had been but if there is a UI then I think politics on this island would slowly but surely realign along more social lines with the reunification question no longer an issue.

You seem convinced it’s SF’s primary issue - if that’s the case then when it eventually happens FF and/or FG and/or Lab can take over running things again as SF would allegedly have nothing else

Not sure there were many who voted on the GFA envisaged that there wouldn’t even be preparation for a BP nearly 30 years on.

As for very quiet on Russia, I think the vast vast majority of people within SF are against imperialist aggression. No country has the right through force of arms to invade another, kill the natives, and pretend the occupied territory now belongs to the invader.
It’s wrong when Russia does it. It’s wrong when China does it. It’s wrong when Israel does it. It’s wrong when US does it. It’s wrong when Britain does it.

Not so fun fact: After a few weeks Israel already has occupied more territory in Lebanon alone than Russia has occupied in Ukraine in 4 years of invasion.
