Fuck Sport

I posted after the Olympics and am going to risk a reprise in the F**k Sport thread, but these are great times to be an Irish sports fan. To see Irish athletes in Birmingham and Paris nailing big performances, qualifying and PBing all over the shop and then Mona McSharry and Ellen Walshe delivering the podiums tonight is unprecedented stuff.

Testimony to the athletes but also to great underage coaching and the excellent high-performance development systems in place over the last 10-15 years.

Long may it continue.

I always maintained we should be funding niche (don't mean to be unfair) sports like athletics, swimming, boxing, rowing, golf etc a way more, divert some of the ridiculous amounts being spent on GAA, rugby and soccer.
How many 50m pools do we even have here?

Well, athletics and swimming are not niche sports in other countries. That’s the key point I suppose. Ireland has always had great running talent - but often has failed to develop it.

That wasn’t the point of my post though - it was a happy vibe.
