Long time ago ,went on several ,drove to some ,fly drive others .great hols for young kids if you have them ,campsites are great ,dont expect the height of luxury ,kids won't care they will just love the freedom of running around playing, off to the pool living in a caravan, some of our best holiday memories for sure

Cork- La Rochelle loads of great campsites around there…

Car is dead handy drive not bad from Roscoff..

We've gone about 4 times now so relative novices but agree with the lads. They're great holidays in a sneakily underrated country.

You kind of have to get your head around the concept. It won't suit every family but for Kids it's magic to have Water Park, Playground and beach all in spitting distance.

the downside is you end up spending a lot of time onsite so bars, restaurants etc all get old and are often only alright.

We tend to pay a bit more for accommodation so you get a bigger more private terrace and a Gas BBQ/Plancha and burn meat for the week. But that's not for everyone.

After some Messing and input from family we think this crowd are good,

They have about 90 sites and are a good balance between price and facilities. They're family owned. Mostly used by the french and Belgians as opposed to Irish and Brits so all the entertainment/kids clubs etc are French but we stay a mile away from that shit.

The other advice and my friends are fuckin sick of listening to me at this point but Nantes us easily my favourite place in France.

we went as a couple as a family of 3 and again as a family of 4. Each time was magic.

It's about 3 hours TGV from Paris if you're not taking a ferry. Get a taxi and stay here

Once you get there the trams are free at weeksends and just outside the campsite.

there is a municipal pool (free to campsite residents) with class slide etc.

Nantes is about the size of cork. You'd walk it in an hour. They have a green painted line bringing you to all the tourist spots. its the birthplace of Jules Verne and they lean into that heavily. they have been building pneumatic mechanical and animals for about 30 years now. 30 foot giant elephants chasing kids around a former dry Dock.

Around the corner is a moonscape where all the craters are trampolines (all free)

it's on the banks of the loire so cycle paths and running everywhere as well as being in the heart of muscat country for the vino

Because the campsite is in the city its more of an excursion holiday with less of the plant and stay onsite vibe.

I obviously don't know any of your families but wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. it's great

Agree with a lot of El-Gs post there, we are past them now but we went on 4 or 5 of them and they are memories we will keep for a long time - great holidays, proper family stuff

I’d suggest Italy - Human have numerous sites there, I’ve been to Tuscany and Rome, they also have one at Lake Garda that I’ve heard good things about. The one at Tuscany is brilliant

It’s a big park but the facilities match it, the pools are class, and plenty of other things for the kids there. The restaurants are fine, and you are close to a few other ports and villages for short day trips.

You fly into Pisa, we always rented a car and drive up which is about 45 mins up the motorway, easy. There is a bus that will bring you there but I have never bothered.

Book early for all of these places, you’ll save 10-20% if you have it done by Feb-ish

An update, As of now ILE DE REY near La Rochelle airport looks like our best option, Flights from Cork, Public bus from airport to the island
some nice parks there, Going further up or down the coast looks difficult and costly, I wont be driving,

Ile de Rey is great. we spent 3 weeks there about 2 years ago in May, St Martin de Ray is the big town on the North side of the island.

Rich day trippers mostly, nice restaurants and the like..Savage ice cream by the harbour.

St Marie de Rey on the South side is nice too but way more residential.

There is a place Bois up by the big beach (Plage Gros Jonc I think) where all the campsites are, very Nice altogether. its supposed to be rammed in the high summer but rent a few bikes and you'll be away. It's flat and there are bike paths everywhere though the vineyards.

For small kids the Aquarium in La Rochelle is great. Also depending on the time of year a Top 14 match in La Rochelle was brilliant. Loads of atmosphere with big brass bands and Fireworks etc. You get resale tickets on their website but the season is over by summer
