Former cork Bookies

Boyle Sports are planning a major expansion in the UK atm, someone better tell hem to call a halt to their plans because the remnants of the SF lads on here have said bricks and mortar shops are dead.

Yeah, shops are quiet alright, but there are some other signs of bad things to come from various podcasts I listen to.

Racing is doomed according to the opinions of people i listen too who know way more than me about this.

Think it was the last Bashcast where I heard that 9% of bets taken in the UK now are by black market bookies. Some of these operators are even advertising that they dont look for your bank statements to place a bet. They won't have any scruples about taking problem gamblers bets either

And good luck getting paid if you hit a big one.
🤔
What do these black market operators do to punters who have trouble paying them what is owed I wonder?

30 years ago my saturday routine was to head to the bookies next to the harp, back a few horses , Do a football
coupon, Head back home and lie on the bed listening to BBC Radio 5 sports, Back to the bookies at 5pm to check results/throw docket
in the bin,
🤔
No stop off for pints Jim or did the pints come after you'd heard that Leeds lost again?😉

Heard a solid argument, and one I mostly agree on, that online/apps should be banned.

If you have to stick your hand into your pocket for your last sweaty fiver and hand it over it means something. It's far too easy to disassociate the number in an app from real cash in your account, or wallet, or purse.

👍
Excellent post.
It's a temptation for too many people to spend money that they haven't got imo.

Which is why there are much stricter regulations in place, and big fines for any operator who isn't acting with due diligence these days compared to say five years ago.

The horror stories of people losing fortunes will possibly continue, but they should be more and more historic rather than recent.

A sensibly regulated and legal online market is ok.

If people have their finances in order and aren't taking in substantial amounts of money from every Tom, Dick and Harry, then they have little to fear.

Boyles are a far more attractive bookie to the everyday punter. Well set up and spaced while most Paddy Power shops are quite dingy in comparison. Grand to pop into for the daily bet but if you're out for the day or a few hours you're going to frequent a Boyles.

Boyles Bingo seems hugely popular as well. I could go in at 11 on a Saturday morning to do a soccer bet and come back at half 5 and same people be playing it. It always depresses me a bit seeing it after I just spent the last 5 hours watching soccer 😂
