Fontaines DC

Hey, thanks lads on the Sprints recs. Got a ticket. Now I have another one for ye (I'll be annoying the shit out of ye now that I've started!) What about The Clockwork? Just listened to one and it sounded decent. Also playing a small place and cheap.

Not familiar with them yet tbh.

Some good tracks on there but I've yet to hear anything from them to beat "Boys in the Better Land" or "Hurricane Laughter".

My young lads think they're brilliant - new album a big hit with them.

That first album is colossal and will (probably) be the best thing that they ever do.

"Skinty Fia" is a fine record also.

Their new look (Offspring circa "Americana"-lite) really annoys me.

Any fans of Fontaines DC on here would do well to check out new Irish band Gurriers - debut album is due, all singles are solid. They're playing Coughlan's in November but I believe that it's sold out now. Have my tickets.

Hehe, at least one of my daughters thinks they're great. New stuff, old stuff, doesn't matter. I like em too, tbh. Just bought a ticket to go see The Clockworks in October. I need to start going to a few gigs again, been too long.

I'm only after a couple of listens to Romance, but it sounds a bit flat and is probably their weakest to date. Disappointing, as I loved the last album. 4 albums in 6 years is lot. And that's really 5 years, as 2020 was a write off. Plus there's been solo stuff too. They probably should take a break from the constant album-tour-album-tour-repeat..However they've still not managed to come back to Cork, despite appearing to play the world over a few times since they were last here.

LOL 4 albums in 6 years is a lot -until you compare it to Bowie's 12 years from 1969:

1969 - David Bowie
1970 - The Man Who Sold the World
1971 - Hunky Dory
1972 - Ziggy Stardust
1973 - Aladdin Sane
1974 - Diamond Dogs
1975 - Young Americans
1976 - Station to Station
1977 - Low
1977 - Heroes
1979 - Lodger
1980 - Scary Monsters

During this time, he also did a number of side projects, 60 fags a day, numerous world tours, acted in numerous movies, a covers album, produced "Transformers" for Lou Reed, wrote "All the Young Dudes" and managed a heroin addiction too!
