Fitzgibbon Cup

Just coming home from the game in Mallow bitterly disappointed how the game played out. The referee ruined the game, no doubt about it. Both Connolly and Finn's charges were yellow card offences in my opinion. Great credit to MTU Cork for battling hard. They kept with UL until the 40th minute. Then, as expected when down to 13 men, the floodgates opened and UL sailed to victory. Thomas Walsh normally doesn't lash out cards like that. Just a pity as it was bubbling up to be a very good game.
Connollys was a definite red card and utterly stupid of him, Finns was also a red but a little less dangerous

Jack Leahy with 4 points from play looked a better player than Jack Cahalane tonight altough I understand hard game to judge with the red cards.
Jack Leahy is a better prospect than Jack Cahalane in fairness but you can’t be judging anyone based on playing with 13 men either
Also Ethan Twomey had a nightmare for UCC. Brian O Sullivan 3 points from midfield for UL. Shocked tbh both Leahy and O Sullivan aren't in Cork squad.
So we drop Ethan for Brian Sull? Yeah great shout ?

UL were only ticking over and very wasteful.
Connollys head was action from guy who completely lost head. His form is well off - will need big improvements to make cork team in summer. Teams have learned to cope with his head down direct approach. Needs to mix things up.

DCU will need a plan to keep Adam English quiet. He’s electric and key man.

Lads, those were two blatant red cards. We give out enough about other counties players tackling like that...we can't have it both ways. It's very dangerous.

It's not like the UL players ran into an elbow/shoulder...they were hit coming up/or down picking the ball.

Connolly and Finn are fine players and great lads I'm sure but they deserved to walk tonight I'm afraid. Hopefully they can learn from it.
Well said

Can't understand why anyone would claim otherwise.

Have a look back at it later, you'll change your mind. To be fair it might look different live at the game, but we had the benefit of seeing it back on replay.
I just got an opportunity to see the clip. I don't think Connolly intended to catch him that badly, but he ran in carelessly and caught him in the head. There is an argument for red alright. 2nd red was wrong though in my opinion, particularly in the context of the game (even though referee shouldn't contextualise their decisions). It is a pity as it finished the game as a contest. I felt MTU Cork had their measure.

Fellas on here roaring that Connolly took him out with deliberate elbow to the head are serious drama queens. Like I said, he ran into him and it was a borderline decision. People claiming Finns was a red might want to switch sports to something more genteel like tennis.

Finn gone aswell, lost the heads altogether
Finn was a bit unlucky
Walsh got in a hit on o Sullivan that bounced him off balance. Finn was coming around a UL defender and didn't have much time to adjust but he went flying in.
If Connolly hadn't happened then he might have got a yellow but to be fair to walsh from his point of view MTU were off their heads and putting in dangerous hits.

MTU were outstanding in the second half v TUS the other night and they were prepared to give it a go but when UL are bringing on Subs that have played county senior what can you do

I understand that you dont want to be shitting on a cork man but come on. Finn was unlucky his one was split second with players changing direction but English was stopped, he was not looking and connolly lined him up and smashed him into the head.
you are not talking about Junior B here, these lads are as fit and agile as players can be and he chose to make that hit.

It was really unfair on his team mates. That was a deeply stupid decision
