Fire Safety In Cork Pubs.

Is there some sort of loophole where pubs built before a certain year don't need a fire cert? I remember asking about one place that should definitely not be approved by the fire Marshall, and was told that they are exempt for some reason.

Unlike Lee I am not going to name the pub and damage their business.

No, was talking to the barman in Dan Lowrys and they had to tear out a lot of their old wood panelling years ago to get fire certification

Con in Dennehy's (sorry - Con that used to have Dennehy's but now exclusively ensconced in The Venue Bar & Lounge) told me years ago that the some fire officer made him take down all the framed copies of The Phoenix, strip the paint off the panelling and re-paint them with some other sort of paint because the existing paint was flammable.

Con said that his response was "In a building that has housed dozens of smokers on a daily basis for over 100 years you reckon that the paint will catch fire?"

The 1981 act captured most old pubs ,that was the end of beauty board ,Draylon and carpets ,
It reduced many pub owners to penury as few were making money but shut,
Today the focus is on electrical work ,rolling 3 monthly inspections ahead of your yearly one and then a really hard to pass 5 yearly one ,
And still where so most fires begin ,deep fat fryers and extraction canopies ,
Believe me if there is one thing we ard on top of in Ireland it’s fire Safery and rightly so .
