Fire Safety In Cork Pubs.

Just thinking how safe are they in the event of a fire breaking out when the pub is busy. How many, if any, have fire exits? Are they legally obliged to have them?
The late, great Vineyard would have been a death trap. The Mutton Lane, X, Y and Zare others that spring to mind that don't seem to have fire exits.

Every pub has a fire certificate granted for each specific enterprise. They must comply with the building regulations for fire, and have the fire officer grant permission. They also have their licences renewed in the courts and would require the fire officer giving the nod amongst other things

That doesn’t stop people blocking doors, or installing materials that dont comply etc, but every pub and business on the planet has an obligation to make sure they are compliant

How do you get into those pubs?!

If the pub has limited fire escapes or extended fire escape distances then they would require an early detection alarm system and a limit on numbers to compensate because existing buildings are dealt with differently to new buildings. But, the fire officer has 100% control over everything granted and refused, and they dont feck around

There are two doors in mutton . I believe there is a fire exit through toilets in long valley . There’s a certain sq allowed for one exit if not a new bar . Fire certs in Ireland are very strict , way more than in uk for example

We labour under the strictist interpretations of the fire code in ireland here in cork ,
There are 32 fire authorities in the lower 26.
It always surprises me that hospitals for example operate at a way lower bar pardon the pun,
However I’m happy with the high sometimes overbearing interpretations in my trade ,annual inspections are very beneficial and I must actually say you will learn a lot from the first guys ,their work rate is very high.

Through the f...ing door Honky unless there's an open window I suppose.
Now if the fire starts near the only door then the customers are in grave danger right?
Are fire officers totally reliable or do they bend the rules for certain establishments?

Fairly sure that bars, and indeed other venues open to the public, get certified to accomodate a given number of people. I've seen such certs posted up though not sure if it's a legal requirement to do so or not.

The thing is though, when an alarm does go off, I've seen loads of people assume it's a fault and completely ignore it.

Thankfully I can't recall anyone dying in a pub fire in Cork

Where's the second door in The Mutton? The last time I was there at midday it was really dark in there.
