These lads have a great ability to hang on to the role when they are clearly unpopular. Payouts here and there, a tournament awarded, an extra place or two at the world cup, a gratifying appointment to a global committee, a few overseas first-class trips for the voter and the mrs with a few measures of illicit pharmaceutical and sexual gratification along the way and hey presto, four more years.
