FIFA World Cup 2026

I just saw the disallowed Egypt goal there again, the "foul" happened near the corner flag, the Argentinian player was going nowhere, Egypt break away, Argentina fail to prevent them scoring what was one of the goals of the tournament, and the match officials grasp at any opportunity to disallow the goal.

It takes the shine off Argentina's comeback and makes you wonder what will come next.

The idea that play could go from one end of the pitch to the other with a goal scored and then be called back for a dubious looking call for a foul is a recipe for corruption and will ruin the game if it becomes the norm.

This is a far bigger deal than some Yank player getting a red card rescinded imho.

I've been following the World Cup since 1954 and have never seen the likes of this.

VAR is a cod, Bill.

You can't count missing World Cups against a player but you can judge a player by his performances at World Cups.
Ronaldo had one excellent World Cup, 2018, one good one in 2006 and 4 poor ones.

He has some damning statistics against him:
• 2 assists in 31 World Cup Appearances.
• 0 goals and 0 assists in all his games in the last 16 or beyond.
At the business end of the tournament, the elite players really stand out.
Contrast that to Pele, Maradona, R9 and Messi.

Up until the last World Cup I felt Messi had also underperformed, with his 2014 Golden Ball undeserved, but his last 2 World Cups have totally changed that.
Absolute bollocks.

Hes the record goal scorer in the Champions league. That carries far far more weight than 31 games.

31 games isn't even a Premier league season.

For Fucks Sake.

140 btw. 5 winners medals. And most assists

I think a lot of it is Messi is so humble and Ronaldo can have a pout often that people veer towards Messi. Messi has it all now, every cup. They're both Gods though
