Absolute bollocks. As I heard on a clip last night the original version of Star Trek was aspirational. It imagined a future where Humanity had moved past all the ridiculous shit that causes division.

A future where humans would think you were crazy for hating someone for their sexuality, skin colour whatever. A future where none of that matters anymore.

Geordi wasn't black, he was just a shit hot engineer. Sisko also wasn't black, he was just a born leader. Janeway wasn't a female captain, she was just a captain. Spock wasn't autistic he was a brilliant number one and a brilliant leader if he needed to be. And the same could be said for lots of other well written characters from Data, to Sulu, to Uhuru.


Yes, Star Trek was always inclusive. It just wasn't lecturing us on any of it. And it told stories where adults could have philosophical arguments and still cooperate with each other when needs be.

Yeah they're saying Paramount and Kurtzman have basically killed Star Trek. Fellas our age who liked TNG , Voyager etc just wont watch the new stuff as there's been 7,8 years of dreadful shows that have nothing in common with the older series. (Picard S3 aside).

Then you have younger people that have no history with the show and wont watch the new stuff as its just shit.

Hard to see anyway back.

They're saying that this new show cost 8 million an episode and the viewing figures are pathetic. If you dont spend the money on showrunners and writers who have a quality cv you end up with this muck, that no one wants.

Its a shame as shows like The Expanse, Foundation and For All Mankind show theres a market there for intelligent, story driven Science Fiction.

I tried to watch the new series. My one question...can you imagine any of these people actually being in charge of a vessel...if no then forget it...janeway gave the impression that she would chew the bollix off ya if you crossed her... that's good. I watche'd 10muns of this woman on academy... she is about 4ft 5...and no presence...shocking...
Star trek had a core following of nerdy young lads who lusted after the women on the show... that's gone so it's dead
