Eye Testing / Glasses

The time has come when I can no longer deny that I need glasses, small text has become a mush so I’ve started that trick of using the camera on the phone zoomed in on a drawing to read dimensions, holding my phone slightly further away to read etc

Do the great and good of the PROC go to Specsavers and sort everything there or is it worthwhile going to an opticians? Is there any difference? It is my googlies after all 🤓

Good on you, I just went for an eye test and my eyesight has improved, I've worn glasses all my life but I am wearing them a lot less, just when reading a book or watching tv show or movie at night. Best of luck.

Went to Egans opticians myself as the old fella got macular degeneration in his elderly years.

They're thorough and luckily I didn't need any type of glasses at all.

I'd suggest everyone have their eyes tested just in case there are little problems there that can develop into something bigger.

My mum goes to Egans and swears by them, but I wondered if there is really any difference between any of these places and Specsavers?

I dont need 2 pairs either, 1 will be fine

Frames can be very expensive and the ones at the top end may be no better than cheaper pairs. They're all made from plastic after all.

Opticians will try to sell 2 pairs btw.

You're in Dublin I think, but I cannot say enough about Specsavers in Wilton. Had an ocular haemorrhage a couple of years back and they did several follow on OCT scans for free. Also decided I didn't like the prescription on my new two pairs of glasses and they reverted one back for no charge. Just recently I came in looking for an emergency eye test due to possible retinal detachment (linked with the above) and I got an immediate test despite having no appointment. Not alone that but, even though I had a routine eye test free through PRSI a few months earlier, they (unasked) pushed this one through the Department as medically necessary and so I didn't even have to pay for it. Great team there!

Don't know really, Egans looked into the back of my eyes as well and the blood vessels that feed them etc.

They can pick up on other illnesses too by doing this and will refer you back to a GP if they spot a problem.
