Ev charger/ 3pin or wall?

Hi lads( n lassies)
Anyone on here buy an ev wall charger?
If so is it cheaper to buy one online and get it installed privately?
Or will home charging via 3 pin plug suffice?
I don’t do a whole lot of driving daily(30/KM 35)
Thanks for any replies.

Get the outside wall box - the untethered one (i.e. the unit that doesn't have the cable permanently attached to it), CF.

I have a Zappi unit and find it great. On my second EV now and I can safely say that you're only wasting your time with the so-called "granny plug".

With the outside wall box you can plug it in overnight (or whenever your electricity is cheapest) and the thing is locked until you release it. There's an app too for more specific charging but I am thick and have never used it.

If you go for the 3-pin plug then it has to be run out a letterbox or somewhere and they take forever. The wall box isn't supercharged like the new ESB chargers (and Ionity ones) but it is much faster than the trickle plug.

I bought mine through a company that have installers subbing for them. Can't remember the name off-hand, think they were based in Little Island - I can dig it out if you want but I they were excellent, in fairness to them.

If you are just doing 35km the 3 pin will do . It changes 2 KW/ HR so just 2 hours charge for you. The wall mounted charger will cost you well in excess of a thousand euro but it charges @ 7 KW/ HR so you will have your car changed in 30 minutes.

Have they dumped the SEAI grant for wall box chargers?

Mine ended up costing about €600 inc VAT* for the unit, installation and commissioning. The crowd who I bought it from did all the paperwork too.

*It was in early 2023.

I have the Zappi one as well, 4 years now. I think at the time that the box and installation was around 1600 and you got half back with the grant.
I bought the charging unit for 700 from an electrical wholesaler in the city and a neighbour fitted it for me, I didn’t bother with the grant.

Could you dig out the name etc if possible?
Thanks

Bit of work involved though
