Once Russia was ousted a few years ago over the war the show became full on political (it was political for years anyway with the manner of the voting). But once the Russia thing happened it was only a matter of time before countries started pulling out over Israel.
I'd like to think fair play to RTE for sticking to their guns though I'd imagine they'll save a small fortune by not participating so it's a win win for them. No flights, accommodation to pay for singers, dancers, set designers, producers, no Marty and countless others involved in the whole thing. Imagine it'll pay for a new suit for Bella in Fair City....wait he's dead isn't he? Is Mondo still alive? Get him a new bomber jacket.
