Euro 28

They can of course do as they please. It's their stadium. But spending 100 million on stadium(30 million of which was funded by the tax payer), catering for one sport, in a small provisional city, is so stupid. But we are where we are.
You do know there has been rugby games and concerts in the stadium.
It’s not the CCBs fault that soccer supporters are Neanderthals and can’t be trusted to stand safely.
Other sports can apply for tax payers money for their stadiums/venues as well, but it doesn’t give anyone outside the applicant the right to dictate what is played in the stadium.
Aviva cost over 400million to cater for two sports, nearly 200 mill of tax payers money

Well aware of all that and it's good that other sports are being put on. Probably could do with a lot more concerts, but the world is starting to run out of legacy acts.

I wasn't having a dig at the GAA. They were always going to build it to suit themselves. The point was having a stadium that is more practical to suit a range of sports in a small city like Cork, makes more sense to me. The main issue being that it's not fully covered, which is a problem, as the weather can and often is shit, all year round. It's also an issue if there's a chance of being part of a bid for a major tournament. And ya, none of this is the CCB's problem. Although they'd be in a position to make a lot of money going forward, if say it was fully covered and it was fully seated. Actually, not sure how easy or not it would be to install seats at both ends, if there was a chance at hosting something like a Euros.

Lansdown Road gets used a lot more in fairness. Between rugby and soccer internationals, club rugby, gigs and odd stuff like American Football. It had to be redeveloped, or another stadium be built elsewhere in Dublin. Which might have been alright, as maybe they it would have 4 proper sides to it. Dublin is great for fancy looking 3 sided stadiums.

The bigger issue is more a Cork thing, Cork City barely have 2 or 3 k at games down from their heyday of 7 or 8. Munster Rugby have Thomond but have obligations to the 10 year ticket holders and of course have Musgrave. The municipal stadium idea would never work here.
Afaik seats can be easily installed, just like on the Hill in 2007

I think UEFA also want fully covered stadiums. The time to properly consider the possibility for international tournaments at PUC, was before it was rebuilt.
Fully covered stadia is low low low priority (if not even a second thought). The issue is not enough corporate boxes for the suits.
Uefa don’t care one jolt about fans, German news publications called fans filling their stadia thru euro2024 as merely a backdrop for the tv cameras. The transport infrastructure was lambasted during the recent tournie. And these are Ze Germans we are talking about.

Jaysus. Maybe we should not have sided with this bid. This is turning into an embarrassment. Are the FAI immune to making good decisions?
I wouldn't read anything into that.

UEFA kicked up a fuss when the government here withdrew funding from the FAI when it came out that Delaney had run it into the ground.

Considering what's happening around parts of Europe with politician interference in football it's a bit laughable.

Fair point. Getting sports to come together in Cork would be next to impossible for a number of reasons. It would have needed to be led by GAA and government. The gaa would have needed to see the potential of having something in Cork, that looks a bit more like what the plans for Casement Park were/are, instead of what's there now. And decide whether not it was worth something to them.

It never would never have happened anyway, with the CBB pulling the strings at the time. I don't remember there being any real plans to open it to other sports, before it was rebuilt. The debt being the main reason for it.

Fairly sure it was a criteria that had to be met when an association put forward a stadium for the bid.
