ESB bill

Good man on the self-sufficiency - probably save you a fortune longer term with the extortionate price we are being charged for electricity. Think you'd likely find major roadblocks from ESB if you wanted to rig up to sell any surplus you may generate to any of your neighbours though.

I looked into it. Some of the restrictions are/were a killer for example, I would have to be contacted at short notice (if at all) that my system would be isolated and disconnected from the grid at a whim for any repairs, outages or upgrades to ensure safety of workers on the grid. Pain in the hole.

And high summer is really the only time I would have excess. I hesitate to even call it “excess” but any gets gobbled up fairly fast by using summer equipment like lawnmower, strimmers, backyard heater, the odd power washing and a games console running 24/7 because I have teenagers! This consumption caught me by surprise when I first installed.

I still don’t have an EV yet though. That’s gonna need the grid.

Can't see the ESB ever permitting local enterprises selling locally generated surplus electricity to others on the grid tbh.
It’s not plausible. Electricity generation, export and transmission is highly regulated for good reason.. ffs most people are so tight arsed now they would struggle to share the bag of sugar with the next door neighbor not to mind electricity, especially in Mahon, Blackrock and Blackpool areas

Something that really wrecks my head is most of our renewables are owned by foreign companies.. I mean these are own indigenous assets.. how the Fock did Canadian pension fund or the Norwegian state fund end up controlling renewable power delivery here?
It’s mind boggling

I'm doing it at home, well selling to the grid. Lots of people with solar panels do it. I'm going it again in the new year on a commercial premise under the SEAI microgen grants

Make sure they pay you....I've just switched back to Electric Ireland from Bord Gais, and in doing the final totals, they discovered they haven't paid me for the electricity the panels have generated. On top of that, there was an issue with the battery so anything generated was going straight back rather than the overflow.
