ESB bill

We're now paying the highest energy prices in Europe

The government's solution....increase prices. Ffs

Saw an interesting thing from the UK though regards how their prices could come down with a largely renewable based infrastructure which I imagine stretches to does your power come locally. Makes sense to me and you could even get into more communal arrangements wherein someone with a serious solar set up might be powering their neighbours washing machine and cut the ESB out of it to an extent.

We need to be looking at nuclear as an option.

The Greens policy has us paying the highest electricity prices in Europe and has been a disaster for the consumer.

Paying 40% higher than the EU average is a disgrace.

100% - our efforts to be the EU Teacher's Pet when it comes to giving huge Greener commitments continues to bite us in the @rse.

Can't see the ESB ever permitting local enterprises selling locally generated surplus electricity to others on the grid tbh.

I’m doing that already (cutting the ESB out as much as I can). I’ve a 5600kw solar array on the roof with 32kwh of batteries in the shed with my inverter. I’ve also hooked up a 200w wind turbine which trickle feeds a separate 12v battery setup as a backup. I’ve created two circuits which run from the shed into the house, one to power the heat pump, oven, cooker and electric shower. The other to power the washer and dryer in the shed and the dishwasher and fridge in the kitchen.

My electric bill is now really only the standing charge and pso levy. The grid is rarely used anymore. Im not brave enough to go off grid yet, not until I get some more years of data.

Good man on the self-sufficiency - probably save you a fortune longer term with the extortionate price we are being charged for electricity. Think you'd likely find major roadblocks from ESB if you wanted to rig up to sell any surplus you may generate to any of your neighbours though.
