No question, Ned van Halfback was the father of Rogbish. He even prefaced one of his pieces about Ireland beating England with an extended excerpt from Tennyson's "Charge of the Light Brigade" - LOL, how Rogbish is that.

He spent a lot of his childhood years in Cork and went to Pres. Played with Con kids teams too. He went to England after school and got into journalism there before coming back to the IT. He forgot more than Cogley ever knew.
A very principled man who believed that politics and sport couldn't be separated. Hence his total opposition to Ireland's SA tour in 1981.

Sorry to learn of his passing; I'm not surprised he was 95 because I had thought he had passed some years ago. A very good rugby journalist indeed, and as I recall, not as 'D4' as many of the ones around now.

How could he be a D4? Born in Tramore, lived most of his youth in Cork and went to work in London journalism. Was too classy for the D4 crowd when he came back!
