Its disappointing that St Colmans haven't won a Harty since 2003 and you may be right in saying the boarding closing it's doors has had an effect but I'd wonder what St Colmans are doing to persuade top quality young hurlers from around North cork to go to the school, yes they get excellent hurlers from the east cork regions Rathcormac, Watergrasshill, St Catherine's, Castleloyns etc & obviously Fermoy & kilworth but how many players are going to the school from Killavullen, Glanworth, killdorrery, Buttevant, Mitchelstown/Ballygiblin etc?? I know people will say theres already secondary schools in Doneraile & Buttevant, Mitchelstown but i really think if St Colmans were serious about winning Harty's again they should be head hunting the best of the best from every town and village all over east & North Cork and the likes of lismore in Waterford. This year's Harty team for St Colmans included a 15 yr old in the starting team in all 3 group matches and in fairness to the youngfella he was excellent in all 3 matches and will be a fine hurler for years to come but a school like St Colmans with possibly 120 boys starting every year shouldn't have to rely on a 3rd year to lead their attack, surely there should be enough in 5th and 6th year that are up to age or are they losing players along the way?? .
