Dr Harty Cup 2024-2025

I think its an ego trip myself
They got beaten in the B quarter final last year
Now they got a hammering from Thurles and have to play flannans who Thurles hit a goal and a point in injury time to draw with.
Surely playing B and trying to win it would be better for them
The problem is the hurling man meself type thinks getting the shot beaten out of you improves your hurling, it’s the mentality that says if only the likes of Carlow or Laois were given extra ‘reources’ they would be possible all Ireland champions - they fail
To understand , hurling is hard to master, you need a large cohort of clubs to sustain a team or county or at least clubs with a real tradition of producing lots of top quality hurlers, this year is of zero use to Tralee, they’ll get hosed many of the players won’t be there next year anyway but a few egos satisfied down there to say we coaches at harty level

Could say the same for half the teams in the competition really, it’s gone way too bloated as can be seen by the scorelines

The young lads get to say they have played at the highest level of school hurling what’s so wrong with that, not a whole pile of school goers get to play in it and it’sa priveledge for them To represent their school. Ya they got beat by 13 point, i’m assuming you weren’t at the match (neither was i) but how do you know they didn’t play excellent and maybe it could of been way closer than what meets the eye?

now to your point about “you need a large cohort of clubs with real tradition of producing top Quality hurlers” Rochestown college went out yesterday with a team comprising of 8 Douglas players (prem Senior) 3 blackrock (prem senior)
and players from Carrigaline, passage and crosshaven, And do you know what they did, they went out and took a 21 point beating, that’s more what i’d call “getting the shot beat out of you”
i’m not trying to pick on the young lads from Roco fair play to them aswell all going out representing their school but come on😂 it’s hardly fair attacking a kerry school when this is happening on our doorstep

Why not let these lads play at the highest level?
Playing against top quality teams will show them better than anything else the standard that needs to be reached and is a valuable lesson.

I wish there were even more schools involved giving your lads the opportunity to play, the best way of all to promote the game.

I understand the sentiment but you have to be realistic at the same time. Better to promote hurling in a school winning a B competition than getting well beaten in an A competition

Well done to both Midleton CBS and the Mon on winning their semi finals in the Dean Ryan today. All Cork final which is great to see
The Mon had only 3 clubs represented in the starting team I believe. Glen, Piarsaighs and Vincent’s. Great pride for those clubs today.

Any team sheets from that game scores
