Dr Eva Newstalk interview about fatties

Ireland among the worst in Europe for eating ultra processed food.

Given the amount of fresh produce we grow and the quality of Irish fish and meat that's desperate.

Thing is the processed food is very convenient. Plus highly flavoured.

Most families have two working parents and the kids are involved in all manner of extra curricular activities aside from their school work to boot so the time to cook fresh meals is limited to say the least.

Some people I reckon are very disciplined and manage to put in the effort , but most simply reach for the packets and the jars etc. Lash on the odd pizza when time gets away.

Looking back to my own childhood we weren't fat although the processed food was available then too but maybe it's more processed now🤔 Also we didn't get the amount of snacks and treats kids get nowadays. Plus we walked / ran everywhere.

It's just a different lifestyle now.

A licence for a dog is not a sign of merit. No one is checked as to whether or not they will be a good dog owner before they get a dog licence. It is just a certificate of ownership.

So the "You need a licence to have a dog, but not to have a child" comments are utterly facile.

Childhood obesity is a serious issue. One that is unlikely to be solved by shaming people on the internet.
