I had to get one recently, you can do it all online now, there is a verificaiton of your passport required and then once everything is approved you get the physical card in the post.

I really do not know what is the issue people have with being identified, I mean, we all carry around mobile phones and if anyone seriously wanted to find out who someone else is, well its not too difficult.

I guarantee you, the new id, will have a brand new, overcomplicated format, that has no connection to any of the above.

To get a phone here with an O2/3/Vodafone contract or sim card, you need a bank account, to get a bank account, you need an NI number and phone number, to get an NI number you need bank statements proving you're not a drain on society.

The PS card is not compulsory and only used for public services. The digital ID card would be.
