there’s a great bit in jimmy burns’ book hand of god where maradona goes to take a throw in för napoli and some fan throws an orange at him. the great one spots it out of the corner of his eye and controls it as it comes to him, does a few keepie uppies and volleys it back the direction it came lol

i must re-read that. it’s a brilliant book.

I must read it! His Barca book is excellent too btw. A decent aount of it intermixes with the Spenish civil war IIRC (Long time since I read it).

Also, Barca signed Di Stefano first, but Franco interfered and said if he must play in Spain he would have to swtich between one season at Barca and one at Real. Can't remember why or how that ended up with him just going to Real, but football history might have been very different had Franco not interfered. Because Di Stefano by all accounts was in the same league as Diego, Pele, Messi et al.
