demise of scottish football

There hasn't been much of a demise in Scottish football at international level, they were never that good to begin with, having never qualified for the 2nd round of a Euros or WC.

Well they did have a lot of top class players (including some world class players) from the 60s through the 80s. Hard to name even one in the 30 years since then-maybe Gary McAllister at a push. Celtic won the EC with a team of homegrown players so there definitely was a golden age which is long gone for whatever reasons. No doubt that we for example have done much better with similar or even fewer resources since Charlton era. 87-16 we have been to 6 tournies, they have been to what 2?

1974 world cup with only 16 teams and no England should have been a high point but their squad looks very ordinary. Denis Law past his best and Dalglish before it. http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/round=262/match=2176/index.html
