De Tunnel

Loads of space there. The problem with the Dunkettle Interchange is the constricted space at the tunnel entrance on the northern side of the tunnel
Loads of space? Are we looking at the same picture? It's in a built-up area with high-rise buildings on two sides.

You can see how compact it is by looking at the number of cars on the east-west part (20 cars in the bottom lane with a car length in between):

Just wondering, while that was being constructed, was it replacing an existing interchange/ roundabout?

Did that involve civil construction having to work in close proximity to live and heavy traffic flows?
With a multi-level road structure like this, you can keep disruption to a minimum for the existing traffic flow while working overhead or below.

Again, it's not rocket science or an issue unique to Cork - it's commonly done all over the world...

With reference to your point about adjoining buildings, what has that to do with anything? Below at the tunnel there are walls on both sides and they have zero effect on the traffic flow.
Were there intersecting roads controlled by traffic lights anywhere during the phase of the construction of that particular project or was it just a photo you found online ?

With regard to working above / below, are you aware of the strict criteria in this country with regard to health and safety on construction sites ?

And you are suggesting building over live roads?????

Let’s drain the estuary. Then we can build whatever we like.

😂

From 10am on tomorrow morning the slip road to Little Island, that is to the left for traffic heading South through the tunnel, which is by the tunnel management building will be closed.

For the idiots who like to moan, this is so that the contractors can work on the new slip for the N25 E traffic that wants to Access the tunnel to the N40 S.

Thanks for all the updates Meri.

Same.

Town worked well for me today, obviously its not an option for all.

The earlier comment suggesting that a lot of the traffic is caused by lane hoppers is total bollocks.
Wrong. The traffic is definitely caused by lane hoppers. Rubberneckers seem to be the worst. Had an idiot in front of me (and many fellow drivers) physically slow down the other night to a crawl when taking the new link eastbound to Midleton. They came to a near standstill simply to have a nose around. Crazy stuff at rush hour. Finger pointing galore going on in the car while the cars are piling up behind after just negotiating a 50min delay on the n40. Infuriating stuff from some idiot drivers out there.

I came from the Mayfield side at 7:30 ish tonight, I have to admire the lads working on that site.

A few lads still out working away in excavators on the approach to the tunnel southbound.

I could not help but think of the tax deductions on their pay slips, that no doubt contribute to the social welfare payments that some of the wasters claim, that are moaning about this project.
